What is the quality of my oil?

Posted by Kahrien van Vuuren on

Hi there,

We are in the new decade and definitely on the run already!

Today I want to look at a few interesting facts about essential oils and share some thoughts on that:

Essential oils are the liquids that are extracted from plants - they are essentially liquefied versions of the plants!

Rather than being synthetically manufactured in labs, essential oils are extracted from plant materials through removal methods that are suited to the specific plant part containing the oils.

Some extraction methods are best suited to particular plant types and parts; for example, cold press extraction is best for obtaining oils from citrus fruit peels and olives because the peels need to be pierced and squeezed.

The method of extraction affects essential oil quality by way of pressure and temperatures applied.

The chemical composition of the essential oils produced in the plants determine their fragrance and medicinal value. Factors such as soil type, altitude, temperature and humidity, amount of sunshine and rainfall in which the plants grow, also have an impact on the quality of the essential oil. The composition of an essential oil can therefor change during a plant’s life cycle.

The Word says we are like plants. Psalm 1 says that a righteous person is like a tree planted by the water, which yields its fruit in season.

We definitely also have oil inside of us that needs to be extracted for the benefit to those around us and to glorify our King!

Many things in our lives (just like with plants), play a role in the quality and fragrance of our oil. Too much of the world and worldly things and to little time with Jesus, can dilute our oil and make it weak.

Essential oils over the ages have been used for medicinal purposes, perfume and for skin care.

God also wants to use us to be a fragrant offering unto Him first and then also to our family, friends, community and the world. He wants us to comfort and bring healing, joy, focus and blessing to the people around us.

We must trust the Lord when He changes our circumstances and take us through uncomfortable seasons, because just like the gardener, He knows what will produce the best harvest and quality oil in us..

What is the quality of my oil??
